H.E. Sheikha Reem’s Talg'at Al Shahania storms home to take Al Jumail Cup

APRIL 17, 2025

Al Uqda Racecourse hosted an exciting five-race card on turf on Thursday, 17 April, headlined by the Al Jumail Cup for Local Purebred Arabian fillies and mares. The afternoon offered a mix of competitive contests featuring both Arabians and thoroughbreds, with thrilling finishes throughout. The day opened with a Purebred Arabian handicap and built up to a dramatic climax in the feature, with narrow margins and blanket-finishes keeping racegoers on the edge of their seats.

Talg’at Al Shahania (Mared Al Sahra x Kampanule De Ghazal) delivered a dazzling late charge to claim the feature race of the day, the Al Jumail Cup, a Class 4 Local Purebred Arabian Graduation Plate for fillies and mares aged 4YO+ over 1400m. The 6YO mare, owned by H.E. Sheikha Reem bint Mohammed bin Khalifa Al-Thani, powered home under Lukas Delozier to win by three quarters of a length, handing trainer Rudy Nerbonne a memorable success.

The ten-runner field saw a brisk pace early, with Kanz Al Adeed (AF AlBahar), Marnan (Majd Al Arab), Messera Al Shahania (Burning Sand) and RM Wadha (Mared Al Sahra) all vying for the lead. Kab Ghazal (No Risk Al Maury), owned by Sharq Stud, trained by Mohd Ahmed Mohd Hasan Al-Sulaiti, and ridden by Arnaud De Lepine, and Aziza (Amer), owned by Khalifa bin Sheail Al Kuwari, trained by Zuhair Mohsen, and ridden by Pierre Charles Boudot, joined the challenge approaching the home turn. Meanwhile, Delozier kept Talg’at Al Shahania patiently at the rear. Once in the straight, the leaders fought tooth and nail, but the race turned on its head when Talg’at Al Shahania unleashed a phenomenal burst of speed. Picking off her rivals one by one, she stormed past the field to snatch a thrilling victory. Aziza held on well for second, with Kab Ghazal staying on for third, a length and a half further behind.

Abdulla Rashid Al Kubaisi, QREC Racing Manager, crowned the winners.
