Makarem Al Shahania breaks maiden in strong fashion

February 27 , 2025

In Race 2, the Local Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate for 4-6YOs over 1400m, Makarem Al Shahania (Munjiz x Unwa) built on her runner-up finish last time to secure a well-earned maiden victory on her fifth career start. Owned and bred by H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani, the 5YO mare was saddled by Rudy Nerbonne and guided to victory by Lukas Delozier, scoring by two and a quarter lengths. Agshar (Al Mourtajez) initially took the lead before Taimoor (Nizam) assumed command and maintained his position through the early and middle stages while the eventual winner travelled in mid-division. As the field entered the home straight, Agshar closed in on the leader, but it was Makarem Al Shahania who produced a sharp turn of foot, surging past them both to win decisively. Husam Al Shahania (Munjiz) finished second, while Mared Al Zaeem (Mared Al Sahra) took third, half a length behind the runner-up, just half a length ahead of Taimoor and Maraweeh Al Sahaab (AF AlBahar), who were separated by narrow margins, a neck and a further neck, in a tight battle for minor honors.
